Case Study

Oak Farm - 17th Century Listed Farmhouse

A prestigious development involving the total refurbishment of an extensive 17th Century, Grade II Listed, farmhouse, stables and outbuildings. The buildings were of traditional sandstone and timber construction in a state of disrepair. New timber floors and roofs were provided to all of the buildings and the external façade was repaired and blast cleaned to reveal its former glory. Several of the main elevations were underpinned.

A new state of the art building was introduced adjacent to the main existing farmhouse to complement the original layout and provide linked access to the larger extension. The new structure was designed using a lightweight steel frame with circular columns and a completely glazed front elevation. A steel and timber floor and roof structure was provided with large cylindrical steel roof lights and a striking stainless steel staircase feeding the upper floor.

The project received numerous awards including winning the New Build Private Residence Award and also the RIBA Manser Medal.
