Sutcliffe was appointed to provide a new single storey extension to the main Lancashire Constabulary HQ building. The proposed new facility complements the existing headquarters building and provides an additional 3,000 sq. m of office space.
We took into account that construction would take place during a live 24 hour working environment. We ensured that there was no disruption to ongoing operations and issues relating to staff, general public and in regards to health and safety. The designs included improvements to general circulation and access for the disabled, improved orientation within the building for visitors and staff and the internal aspect of existing first floor office accommodation.
Key Aspects of the Project and our Services:
To achieve cost savings – Several structural framing options were considered for the main steel frame design including composite/non composite design, alternative column layouts, transfer slabs and a variety of floor constructions.
To deliver on time – By working in harmony with the design team during the pre-tender period, we were able to meet the deadlines set within the master programme.
To minimise risk – The design was developed in conjunction with the CDMC with significant risks considered and eliminated. We also worked closely with the main contractor once on site in order to ensure the safest working manners possible were adopted.
