MIPIM 2025: Liverpool City Region’s Investment Potential and Transformational Growth

What a fantastic week at MIPIM2025, where CEO Sean Keyes and Director Martin Pocock had the privilege of representing Sutcliffe alongside the Liverpool City Region delegation.

This year’s event reaffirmed the region’s status as a premier destination for investment, with a clear, unified vision driving transformational projects across housing, transport, innovation, and waterfront regeneration. Here are some key takeaways from this exciting week:

Transformational Waterfronts

The Liverpool City Region boasts iconic waterfronts, including Liverpool Waters, Wirral Waters, and Birkenhead 2040, all of which are primed to deliver over 10,000 new homes. This significant development is supported by the region’s maritime innovation, net zero ambitions, and major investment opportunities. With maritime supporting 48,200 jobs and contributing £5bn to the economy, Liverpool’s waterfronts are not just scenic; they are a powerful engine for sustainable development and growth.

Life Sciences & Innovation

Liverpool City Region is rapidly emerging as a leader in the life sciences sector. The region is home to innovation districts and research facilities that are creating substantial real estate investment opportunities. At MIPIM, Mayor Steve Rotheram reinforced the region’s ambition to be in the “Champions League” for life sciences. With world-class research institutions, thriving biotech clusters, and strong public-private partnerships, Liverpool is creating the perfect environment for growth in this vital sector.

Game-Changing Developments in Health & Life Sciences

The Innovation Zone in the city continues to drive Liverpool’s economic future, with new developments like Health Innovation Liverpool (HIL), HEMISPHERE One and Two, and Central Tech. These initiatives are creating flexible spaces to house university spinouts, startups, and scaling businesses in chemistry and life sciences. With demand for cutting-edge research and commercial labs at an all-time high, these spaces will further bolster Liverpool’s role as a hub for scientific advancement and innovation.

Housing Investment & Growth

With the UK government committed to building 1.5 million new homes over the next decade, Liverpool City Region is poised to be a key player in the urban living market. Mayor Steve Rotheram and Homes England highlighted the significant opportunities for developers to capitalise on the soaring demand for housing. With a focus on creating vibrant, sustainable urban environments, the region is emerging as one of the most exciting prospects for housing investment in the UK.

Transport-Led Regeneration

A key theme at MIPIM this year was the role of transport infrastructure in driving economic growth and social inclusion. Transformative projects, such as the redevelopment of Liverpool Central and Lime Street stations, will serve as catalysts for urban regeneration. Improved connectivity, modernised rail hubs, and integrated urban development will unlock the full potential of Liverpool and its surrounding areas. The new transport infrastructure will not only enhance the region’s connectivity but will also help ensure that growth is inclusive, accessible, and sustainable.

It’s clear that Liverpool City Region is a place with a great story to tell and huge opportunities to showcase, with a collective vision for sustainable, inclusive, and innovative growth. The region’s investment potential is unmatched, and MIPIM 2025 has provided a great platform for showcasing its key developments across multiple sectors. The coming years promise to be an exciting time for Liverpool, with game-changing projects and strategic growth opportunities ensuring continued success.

“I’m still trying to find the words to express how thankful we are to have been a beneficiary at this year's Sutcliffe Charity Ball.”

We’re looking forward to receiving a new incubator to help our poorly babies grow big and strong. Events like this don’t happen overnight, they take months of planning and years of building relationships with people who want to support good people – it was truly exceptional.
