Prescot Fire Station

At Sutcliffe, we designed a scheme for North West Fire and Rescue, including 32 warehouse units, new roads, and parking. The design featured steel portal frames, mass fill foundations, and partial mezzanine floors to accommodate various tenant needs.

We carried out detailed site investigations to understand the ground conditions, which helped us address requirements from the LCC Contaminated Land Department. This groundwork ensured we met all regulatory standards.

Despite the project being put on hold due to the 2008 financial crisis, we established key parameters with United Utilities for surface water discharge and attenuation. We also proposed a natural pond and wellbeing garden to support sustainability goals.

After a 12 month construction project, Prescot Community Fire and Police Station has opened at the junction of Manchester Road and Cables Way. The purpose-built facility replaces the former Prescot Police Station on Derby Street and both Whiston and Huyton Fire Stations, on Delph Lane and Huyton Lane, respectively. The two-acre site is roughly the same distance from each former fire station.

The new build has three fire engine bays and a drill tower that can be used to simulate and practice different types of roof rescue. Other facilities include a kitchen, dining room and gym, as well as two rooms available free of charge to community groups.
