The University of Lancaster have had plans approved to develop an extra care village with over 100 one and two bedroom extra care apartments over four storeys. The development removes older disused buildings, creating resident amenity space and includes conversions of existing hertiage assets of Barbon, Hornby and the Art School.

The new Lancaster University Extra Care village will have 92 one and two-bedroom apartments, three of which will be wheelchair friendly.

Two of the existing buildings will be converted into 16 one and two-bedroom general flats.

The project also includes additional features such as assisted and spa bathing, a hairdressing facility, games room, roof terraces, laundry room and parking with EV charging points.

Sutcliffe were instructed by Progress Housing Association Limited to provide geotechnical, civil and structural services.

Sutcliffe provided a phase I desktop study and environmental assessment and phase II site investigation works and project management services.

For civil and structural engineering services, Sutcliffe delivered a substructure and superstructure design, a below ground drainage design for foul and surface water, external works sub-base design, alternative design to the existing Hornby and Barbon buildings and CCTV drainage surveys.

Additionally, Sutcliffe provided a full structural appraisal and inspection.

The new development for Lancaster University will greatly improve the landscape and area while redeveloping older disused buildings and bring them back into fruition.
