Sutcliffe carried out Geothermal investigations for the proposed use of ground source heat pumps in order to assist with the energy efficiency of the building and to help the residences to reduce fuel poverty, using innovative techniques to benefit the client and end user.
Sutcliffe carried out an initial Phase I desktop study along with a coal mining risk assessment.
We then proceeded with Phase II Site Investigations in order to determine site conditions.
We carried out a remediation strategy and on site verification of imported material.
Wigan Council also have a no fossil fuel policy for new build developments, to assist this Sutcliffe undertook a geothermal study assessing the increase in temperature with depth for the boreholes.
The assessment allowed for the design of 35No. 200m deep boreholes to provide hot water for the development.
As part of Sutcliffe appointment we discharged a number of pre- start and on completion planning conditions.
Sutcliffe provided civil and structural designs, validation works and RC detailing.
The project has recently won ‘best supported housing development – rural/ suburban’ at the Inside Housing Development Awards 2024.
Our team were thrilled to attend the awards ceremony in London with Wigan Council to collect the award and celebrate the achievements of the scheme.
