Our scope included designing a steel frame supported by reinforced pad foundations. We also engineered external works and below-ground drainage systems. Additional features included a new steam trench, reinforced concrete retaining walls to form a ramp, and a pedestrian walkway leading onto the podium.

The design was engineered to accommodate general loading requirements and facilitate the replacement of heavy plant on the roof of the 11-storey hospital. We worked closely with NBBJ Architects, Laing O’Rourke, and FIRA Landscape Architects to integrate the new structure with existing infrastructure and landscape while adhering to the masterplan developed in 2013.

Project challenges

Challenges involved coordinating multiple drainage and level alterations around the main building to ensure the successful completion of the podium and the overall hospital project.
