CCC Waste Recycling Plant

CCC Waste Management

The objective of the project was to construct the UK’s largest and one of Europe’s largest aggregate recycling facilities in order to minimise the extraction of raw materials and creation of new aggregates. The site handling and recycling approximately 350 tonnes of aggregate and 1,000,000 tonnes per year.

Sutcliffe were instructed by CCC Waste Management to provide civil and structural engineering services. The brief given to Sutcliffe required the design of the processing plant, external yard slabs and a surface water management system to ensure the carbon footprint of the North West Region construction industry was massively reduced.

Sutcliffe delivered civil and structural engineering services on a novel surface water system that allows for rainwater to be recycled for use in operation of the plant, reducing the need to rely solely on extracted water.

Sutcliffe worked efficiently witht the design team, CCC Waste and CDE Global with a clear and transparent channel of communication, enabling the project to be completed on time and to the predicted budget.

During the lifetime of this project, we anticipate the facility will save 50,000,000 tonnes of material going to landfill, with a carbon footprint of 10,000,000,000 tonnes and an embodied energy of 150,000,000,000MJ.

This is the equivalent of a city running for 15 years. The project brings many benefits to the Liverpool City Region and local economy, reducing pollution, bringing positive impacts for sustainability for social, economic and environmental factors and is a flagship for other regions across the UK who will undoubtedly follow the example of the project’s success.

“I’m still trying to find the words to express how thankful we are to have been a beneficiary at this year's Sutcliffe Charity Ball.”

We’re looking forward to receiving a new incubator to help our poorly babies grow big and strong. Events like this don’t happen overnight, they take months of planning and years of building relationships with people who want to support good people – it was truly exceptional.
