One of the standout features of this facility is its cutting-edge European technology, which delivers airflow directly underneath the concrete slab into the waste. This innovative technology enhances the composting process, improving efficiency and reducing waste breakdown time. To support this, we carefully considered temperature gradients in the concrete design and implemented corrosion protection measures for the steel frame, so there is maximum durability in the humid conditions of the facility.

The facility is operated by Biowise, a leading waste management company with over 50 years of experience in sustainable waste treatment. With the capacity to process up to 75,000 tonnes of food and garden waste per year, over 95% of waste inputs are converted into high-quality, BSI PAS 100-certified compost, which can be used in horticulture, agriculture, and landscaping.

This facility is crucial in supporting Cheshire East’s target of 65% recycling, a step towards the UK’s broader sustainability, NetZero and zero-waste goals. Sutcliffe is always conscious of providing a greener option to support a greener future.
