Beechwood Nursery

Sutcliffe was appointed by Cheshire East Council to design a new single-storey nursery block to replace the previous nursery on the Beechwood Primary School Site. Preconstruction surveys confirmed that piled foundations were required, and the CCTV survey showed an adopted sewer running underneath the proposed building footprint.

Sutcliffe liaised extensively with United Utilities to ensure a BuildOver Agreement was signed rather than having to carry out an expensive Section 185 sewer diversion. A modular building was chosen to meet the challenging timescales of being open in September for the new intake of children. F Parkinson came onboard at RIBA Stage 2 which meant early engagement of the modular supply chain, which allowed us to coordinate foundation designs in line with the tight construction programme. The external appearance and high standard of the internal finish of the modular building were very well received by the client, teachers, parents and children alike.
