Mickle Trafford Village School

This job was the seventh project as part of the NWCH School Programme. Sutcliffe engineers were responsible for carrying out a geotechnical and environmental investigation on land at the rear end of the school site.

They also created structural engineering designs for the new build element of the works and also the refurbishment of the existing school.

The principal objective of this design and build commission was to work closely with the architect and contractor to develop the scheme in a safe and cost-effective manner, in order to meet the client’s aspirations for an ultra-modern facility, whilst remaining within a challenging budget and timescale.

The site sloped steeply from front to back and Sutcliffe worked closely with both the architect and contractor to optimise cut and fill, therefore minimising the costs of import and export of material from the site.

The project was successfully completed within budget and on time. Sutcliffe was consequently appointed by the same client on 11 separate primary school projects throughout Cheshire West and Chester Council.
