Tytherington School

Sutcliffe was engaged by Cheshire East Council to design a new two-storey classroom block at Tytherington School.

Preconstruction surveys revealed strip foundations were sufficient, whereas the CCTV survey highlighted a private sewer was running underneath the new building. Sutcliffe designed a sewer diversion to enable the existing drainage to remain live throughout.

DH Welton won the tender for the construction contract at RIBA Stage 4 and a modular building was chosen due to inflationary market forces within the steel frame sector. The project started on site May 2021 and was handed over in spring 2022 following an extended construction period which was affected by pandemic-related supply chain issues the scheme has successfully delivered an increase in teaching space which the school required as part of an ongoing reorganisation of pupils within the local area.
