Wilmslow High School

Sutcliffe has been part of the council’s design team from RIBA Stage 1 for the expansion of the high school, turning it from ten form entry into a 12-form entry to cope with increasing pupil numbers in the area.

Extensive pre-construction surveys were undertaken during RIBA Stages 1-3 to understand the site’s constraints and opportunities. Extensive ground investigations confirmed that traditional pad foundations would be suitable for the new extensions, which were to be steel frame construction with
composite metal deck floors and lightweight metal roofs. Drainage surveys revealed a complex network of existing drains which have been reused where possible and supplemented with new drainage where required.

Conlon Construction came on board at RIBA Stage 4 in January 2021 as part of a two-stage tender process. Temporary classrooms were installed in summer 2021 ahead of the main construction work starting in September 2021. However, due to Planning delays and pandemic-related market
forces, the scheme has been undergoing redesign to bring the scheme back within budget. It is anticipated that construction will start on site during Spring 2022 with a planned completion date of November 2023.
